Belgian hockey clubs are increasingly investing in DUOL air domes as a sustainable and future-oriented answer to winter challenges. With the sport growing by around 8% per year since 2008 and a strong base of young players, clubs must secure year-round training conditions or risk losing momentum.
For many, reliance on public indoor halls restricted development. Travel time, limited availability, and shared-use constraints slowed expansion. By installing a DUOL air dome directly on-site, clubs such as HC Lokeren have regained control over their schedules and growth. This winter, the club will host 18 indoor teams, with ambitions to expand further. The 1,650 m² dome provides a full indoor field and ensures continuity for its 650 members.

Beyond convenience, the solution stands out as both innovative and proven. DUOL air domes use advanced membrane technology with air pressure to maintain structural stability and thermal insulation. The insulating layer, maintaining a consistent indoor temperature while reducing energy consumption compared to conventional temporary structures. The system is engineered for durability, efficiency, and long-term performance—technology that has already been successfully implemented across multiple European markets.
Financial sustainability is just as important. Compared to traditional framed tents, air-supported domes involve fewer structural elements, lower labor requirements, and simpler installation. No cranes, no complex steel frameworks, no hidden construction costs. Because the structure is self-supporting, trained volunteers can assist with assembly and dismantling. With Belgian government grants covering up to two-thirds of sports infrastructure investments, the remaining financial burden becomes realistic and manageable for clubs.
HC Blackbirds and HC Gantoise followed the same strategic logic. Their domes cover half an artificial turf pitch, creating two indoor courts. Combined with modular flooring and boarding systems, clubs can establish a fully operational indoor facility through one integrated, streamlined solution.
Together with our valued partner RSI Sports Group, DUOL delivers local air dome expertise, technical guidance, and dedicated support across Belgium and the Netherlands. This close collaboration ensures that clubs are supported by experienced professionals from initial planning through to long-term operation.
The result is clear: a reliable, sustainable indoor facility that strengthens player retention, protects performance standards, and allows clubs to grow with confidence—every season of the year.
